Denver is a symbol of the state for all people. In my travels I've had the pleasure of meeting people who are from New Zealand or the other side. If you inform them you're from Colorado The first thing they say are Oh John Denver. Brown declared. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a short stint in smaller folk-based groups is Take Me Home Country Roads which was co-written by Bill Danoff. Danoff had originally written the tune using Johnny Cash's songs in the back of his mind, however Denver realized from the first moment he heard earlier versions that the track was going to be an instant success. Danoff recorded the track only a few days afterward before performing the song to the awe-inspiring crowd who were in Washington D.C.
