Take Me Home Country Roads was one of Denver's biggest solo accomplishment after performing with small folk bands. It was written, co-written and recorded by Bill Danoff. Danoff had written the song inspired by Johnny Cash, but Denver had the opportunity to listen to an early version and knew the song would be a top 10 hit. Danoff recorded the track only a few days afterward when he performed it in front of crowds of enthusiastic fans at Washington D.C.
